FUNDAMENTALS FOR OPTIMUM DECISIONS IN THE DESIGN OF TYPE SERIES
Abstract
The design of type series consists in developing a set of products of a single type, however, assigned to various modes of application. An outline of a mathematical model has been presented in this paper that permits to establish logical links between problems involved in the design of a single product and those involved in the standardization of a whole set. The principles have been discussed of evaluation of type series as well as the concept of optimality of solutions, and illustrated by a simple exaple. An example has furtermore been summarized of an application of the theory to a type series of heat exchangers.
