Comparative analysis of economic effectiveness of the operation of a power unit with supercritical parameters with its operation in oxy-fuel technology
Abstract
This paper reports the results of a comparative analysis regarding economic effectiveness of the operation of a condensing power unit with supercritical parameters with its operation in the oxy-fuel technology. The application of the innovative technology of oxy-fuel process is imposed by the necessity to fulfill EU regulations with regard to reduction of CO2 emission into the atmosphere. Analysis is based on specific cost of production of electricity and as a main factors are new rules for European Union emissions trading scheme (EU ETS) which are applied for installations covered by it. Decreasing primarily free allocations from the governments had a significant impact on the comparative statement of the profitability of oxy-combustion technology in power plants. The calculations were performed by comparing the specific production cost of electricity in the two designs and using economic analysis measures, i.e. NPV, IRR and DPBP.
