Performance Improvement of MPPT based on Fuzzy Logic Controller for the Photovoltaic System
Abstract
The Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) method is essential for photovoltaic systems in order to be able to continuously extract the maximum power in the different levels of irradiance and temperature. In this paper, a new MPPT technique based on new Fuzzy Logic (FL) control strategy for the photovoltaic system is presented. The main contribution of this paper consists in the implementation of a new combination including the duty cycle at the moment (k-1) and the variation of the power of the photovoltaic system as an inputs variable for the FL control. This significantly reduces the ripple around the MPP and adds more efficiency, flexibility and speed to convergence to the MPP. Therefore, performances and effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are compared with the most popular techniques such as: Perturb and Observe (P&O) and Incremental Conductance (INC) and then analysed by using the Matlab-Simulink environment. The simulation results show that the MPPT controller based on the proposed FL technique extracts a higher and more stable average power in all conditions compared to other techniques.
